When I come to shadow…
What time should I arrive? 8:00am
Which door should I enter? If you arrive before 8:00am, you should enter through the student entrance in the back of the school. If you arrive at 8:00am or later, you should enter through the main entrance which opens to a lobby and welcome desk.
Where do I go when I enter the school? After you enter, head to the main office. Go through the lobby, past the welcome desk, and into the main lunch room. Look directly to your right and you will see the office. You will be greeted by a student, administrator, or other office staff, and then matched up with a Student Ambassador for the day. If you enter through the back entrance, ask any student, administrator, or faculty member to show you where the main office is and they will help you find your way.
What will the day be like? You will be matched with a Student Ambassador, and you will follow that student to his or her classes for the entire day. Metropolitan has an alternatining A/B Block schedule and so you will be visiting four different classes which last for about 90 minutes. During your visit, your Student Ambassador should be able to answer many questions about what it is like to attend Metropolitan. At some point during the day, an administrator or other school designee will meet with you for a short while to make sure that you get all the necessary information about Metropolitan in order to make a decision about attending the school, so please, come with questions!
What time should I get picked up? 1:45pm
What should I wear? A solid (non print, non logo) polo or button down oxford shirt and khaki or navy pants would be ideal. Metropolitan is a uniform school of choice and other students will be wearing khaki or navy skirts and pants and a polo or oxford shirt (white, navy, or light blue).
What about lunch? Students can bring their own lunch from home or they can buy lunch here. School lunch costs between $2.00 and $5.00. If students already attend a New Haven Public School, they can use their lunch code when they go through our lunch line and they will be charged the same price they pay at the school where they are currently enrolled. Lunch changes every day but you can always get sandwiches, salad, and pizza.
